Charly Bliss Announce New Album ‘Forever,’ Share Single ‘Nineteen’

Charly Bliss are back with a new song, “Nineteen,” that’ll appear on the band’s upcoming album, Forever, out Aug. 16 via Lucky Number Music.

“Nineteen” is a power ballad of the highest order, complete with a saxophone solo and the complex nostalgia that can still strike years after a broken heart: “Can I be honest?,” Eva Hendricks sings. “Push it all down, but I want you/C’mon honey break my heart/I could run forever but I won’t get far.”

That last line may have provided some inspiration for the song’s music video, directed by Henry Kaplan, in which a bunch of runners line up for the “10th Annual I Can’t Believe I Still Dream About You Cross Country Invitational.”

“I’ll always be fascinated by love and relationships that don’t quite work and bring tsunamis of heartbreak,” Hendricks said in a statement. “The further away I am from it, the kind of love that bashes you against the rocks just as often as it carries you over waves of manic joy, the easier it is to see the full scope of it. First love is crazy.”

Forever will mark Charly Bliss’ third album, and also their first in five years, following 2019’s excellent Young Enough. The new album was produced by Jake Luppen of Hippo Campus and Caleb Wright, along with Charly Bliss drummer Sam Hendricks (Eva’s brother).

Charly Bliss group members started writing Forever in 2020, doing remote writing sessions not just because of the pandemic, but because Hendrix was living on the other side of the world in Australia. Though Charly Bliss were used to writing everything in a room together, the distance suited the band, allowing individual members to pursue ideas and songs at their own pace.

Last year, Charly Bliss teased their long-awaited return with a pair of singles, “You Don’t Even Know Me Anymore” and “I Need a New Boyfriend.”
