Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Schumer Not Making That Sisters Comedy Anymore

The pair first teased the project in 2015 and even wrote a script, but Lawrence said she’s not sure the idea would “resonate as much” now

Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer have scrapped a long-in-the-works but never fully realized project in which they were set to play sisters.

Schumer broke the news in a new interview with Variety, saying, “I don’t think it will ever happen. It was just like, life kept going. My family was going through a rough time. I don’t want to say any more than that.”

Lawrence added: “Now that we’re older, a sister comedy might not resonate as much. But we have every intention of working together.”

The project was first teased back in 2015, right as Lawrence was about to wrap The Hunger Games franchise with Mockingjay – Part 2, and Schumer was coming off the massive success of her Judd Apatow-directed comedy, Trainwreck. Speaking with The New York Times at the time, Lawrence said they were “almost done writing” the script, adding: “Amy and I were creatively made for each other. We have different flavors. It’s been the most fun experience of my life.”

One year later, Lawrence told BBC 6 Music that they’d finished a first draft, but after that there was largely radio silence. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live last year, Lawrence seemed to sort of hint the inevitable fate of the film joking, “If you know anything about me and Amy, it’s that we are lazy. It’s not that it’s off — it’s on. It’s just going at our pace.”

Schumer recently dropped the second season of her Hulu series, Life and Beth, while she’s also set to appear in two movies this year: Jerry Seinfeld’s upcoming Pop Tarts flick Unfrosted and John Krasinski’s IF. Lawrence’s most recent project was the 2023 comedy No Hard Feelings, which earned her a Best Actress nomination at the Golden Globes earlier this year (at the ceremony, she jokingly threatened to leave if she didn’t win — before promptly losing to friend Emma Stone).
